Via Krupp: Engineering a Route Through Capri’s Cliffs
Via Krupp’s tight bends turn a steep coastal slope into a designed landscape. Its history explains the link between Capri town’s hotel quarter and the waters of Marina Piccola.
Commissioned by Friedrich Alfred Krupp and built between 1900 and 1902, the paved footpath negotiates about 100 metres of height. Its switchbacks are the main feature to understand: they connected the Gardens of Augustus and Certosa area with Marina Piccola, where Krupp’s marine research vessel lay. The route makes the relationship between upper town and southern shore unusually visible.
