Getting around Cartagena
Walking works well inside the old town, but the fort, Bocagrande and island departure points call for separate transport choices. Decide by neighborhood before setting out.

A walk from Puerta del Reloj through the central plazas lets you see the old city's streets at close range. Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas lies outside that compact circuit, while Bocagrande follows a different shoreline. Boats to the Rosario islands or Playa Blanca are an excursion, not a shortcut between old-town sights.
Useful to know
Group the Clock Gate, Plaza de los Coches and Plaza de Bolívar into one old-town walk.
For a taxi trip to Bocagrande or the fort, confirm the fare before getting in.
Check the pier and full boat itinerary before committing to an island excursion.
