A first walk through central Catania
Start at Piazza del Duomo for the elephant fountain and cathedral, then use Via Etnea to connect the centre's Baroque fronts with Piazza Stesicoro and its Roman remains.
This sequence gives a first-time visitor a readable cross-section of Catania: the rebuilt civic square, a busy shopping street and an ancient amphitheatre fragment. La Pescheria sits close to Piazza del Duomo and makes a separate market detour; Castello Ursino or the Roman Theatre can extend the walk.
What to look for
The elephant fountain marks Piazza del Duomo beside the cathedral.
Via Etnea runs north from the square through the central shopping area.
Piazza Stesicoro reveals remains of the Roman amphitheatre.
Useful to know
Treat La Pescheria as a detour from Piazza del Duomo rather than part of the Via Etnea line.
Add Castello Ursino or the Roman Theatre only if you want a longer history-focused walk.
