Why go
This route suits visitors who want to move from museum galleries into the landscape they help explain. Start at the Gushan branch of Zhejiang Provincial Museum, then enter the West Lake walk near the northern end of Su Causeway rather than aiming for the lake’s mapped center. Give the causeway and its bridges the largest block of time as you move south. From the southern end, continue to Leifeng Pagoda on Xizhao Hill for a final architectural landmark. Allow time for the walk to the pagoda as well as the museum and lake visits; this route covers one defined section of West Lake rather than circling it.
