Huanglongxi, Sichuan
Huanglongxi is a restored water town outside Chengdu, suited to a slow walk through older streets and riverside spaces. Its location makes it a separate excursion rather than a quick central-city stop.
The appeal is the relationship between the town’s streets and the watercourse that gave Huanglongxi its name. Older lanes, temple spaces and former wharves offer a different scale from Chengdu’s urban museums. Restoration and visitor commerce are part of the present scene, so approach it as a historic town adapted for visits, not a frozen past.
