Zhouzhuang, Jiangsu
Zhouzhuang’s closely woven canals and residential lanes make it a classic Jiangsu water-town walk. Focus on bridges, water edges and lived-in street form rather than expecting one headline monument.
The density of watercourses is what gives Zhouzhuang its character. Short crossings reveal repeated changes in view: house fronts, narrow channels and small lanes appear from different angles. Its visitor fame does not replace that town-scale experience, so take the time to follow the network rather than rushing straight through.
What to look for
Cross bridges to see how the canals divide and reconnect the town.
Notice historic residential fronts along the narrow waterways.
Look for Quanfu Temple as a distinct stop within the wider town.
Useful to know
Explore the canal network on foot before adding an enclosed attraction.
Check current entry rules for any scenic or temple section you choose.
