Castello Doria, Vernazza
Castello Doria occupies the rocky end of Vernazza above the harbour. Its surviving defenses and lookout recall the village’s need to watch the coast.
Why go
Walk to Vernazza’s rocky headland to understand the harbour from its defensive edge. The surviving Doria castle and lookout occupy a point above the water, with the village and bay gathered behind them. Looking back from here shows how closely Vernazza’s harbour, church and fortified high ground fit together.
