Angelokastro
A Byzantine castle above Corfu’s northwest coast, Angelokastro rewards a steep uphill approach with cliff-edge ruins, chapels and sweeping views. Allow time for the climb.
Why go
The castle occupies a high, defensive position that explains how Corfu watched its western sea approaches. At the summit, seek out the Archangel Michael church and the rock-cut Saint Kyriaki chapel before taking in the coastline. The climb and exposed setting make this a more active heritage visit than the town fortresses.
