Why go
Read Bastia from the Old Port upward through its museum and citadel before following Cap Corse to Erbalunga. Moulin Mattei belongs only in a long summer day because the northern roads are slow and exposed. Make Bastia Old Port and Musée de Bastia the two fixed anchors. Climb through Bastia before taking the narrow peninsula road. If traffic builds, finish at Erbalunga and leave the far north for another day. Keep layers in the car and turn back before northern road time consumes the final visit.

Bastia Citadel
Give Bastia Citadel its own place in the day. Terra Nova's walls enclose lanes, the governors' palace, and sea-facing terraces above the port. Use the signed pedestrian approaches and allow for steep streets between the port and citadel.

Moulin Mattei
Make time for Moulin Mattei rather than treating it as a roadside pause. A restored windmill stands on a ridge above the northern end of Cap Corse. Expect strong wind and a short uphill walk; check road and path.
