Why go
Santa Clotilde suits an interest in Italian-influenced landscape design, while the Blanes gardens focus more strongly on botanical collections. Cap Roig combines Mediterranean plants with species from other continents near Calella de Palafrugell. Choose by the details you want to examine, as the sea view is only part of each garden’s character.
The full story
At Santa Clotilde in Lloret de Mar, Nicolau Maria Rubió i Tudurí shaped a cliff garden with an Italian influence. Formal coherence, marble sculptures and an emphasis on greenery distinguish the design from a garden built around flower displays. Pinya de Rosa in Blanes was created by Ferdinand Rivière Caralt in 1954. Cacti, Opuntia and aloes sit among native vegetation, bringing plants associated with other climates into a Mediterranean setting. Nearby Marimurtra occupies the slopes and cliffs of Mount Sant Joan. Founded by Karl Faust in 1921, it combines native plants with species such as Chilean palms and bamboo. Cap Roig, near Calella de Palafrugell, offers another mixture of Mediterranean vegetation and plants from around the world. The four gardens are separate destinations rather than one continuous garden route; select the collection or design that best matches your interests and coastal base.
