Why go
Girona and Figueres-Vilafant are useful high-speed rail gateways, but neither is a coastal resort. Blanes has a different role, with a railway approaching along the southern coast from Barcelona. Knowing which gateway matches your destination helps you plan the onward leg before choosing a flight or train.
The full story
Girona–Costa Brava Airport lies at Vilobí d’Onyar, south of Girona. Compare the complete onward journey to your chosen coastal town when weighing it against Barcelona or Perpignan-Rivesaltes airports. Empuriabrava’s aerodrome has a different purpose, associated with sport aviation and parachuting. The conventional railway from Barcelona reaches Blanes before continuing to Maçanet de la Selva. There it joins the inland line that crosses the Girona region towards France. High-speed trains use the corridor through Girona and Figueres-Vilafant, so distinguish those stations from the coastal towns when planning connections. Buses link coastal settlements with inland towns, while taxis and hire cars provide other road options. Check the current route and timetable for the particular journey you need. Along the coast, harbours also support sightseeing cruises and passenger boat trips; check the actual stops before relying on one for transport.
