Why go
An inland visit to Figueres and a coastal stay in Lloret may share language and currency, but individual businesses follow their own hours. Recognising Catalan place names and checking meal service helps with ordinary decisions, especially when combining sightseeing, shopping and lunch in the same outing.
The full story
Catalan and Spanish are used across the region. Keeping local spellings such as Cadaqués, Llançà and Sant Feliu de Guíxols to hand helps match your destination with signs and place names. The currency is the euro. Meals commonly fall later than many visitors expect. A restaurant’s lunch or evening service deserves a separate check from its general opening hours, particularly if a meal is meant to fit between two visits. Tourist-oriented establishments may follow a different rhythm from smaller local businesses. Public holidays and municipal celebrations can also affect plans. The Catalan calendar includes Sant Joan in June and the national day in September, while towns have local holidays of their own. For a day involving a bank, shop or public office, confirm that establishment’s arrangements directly. Old regional timetables are a poor basis for deciding when to make a special journey.
