Why go
Match the activity to the landscape rather than treating the coast as one long beach. The islands off L’Estartit, the Cap de Creus peninsula and the hills between Platja d’Aro and Palamós give you different starting points for exploring the Costa Brava on water or on foot.
The full story
For diving, the main areas include the small islands off L’Estartit, the coast around Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Cap de Creus. These give a useful geographical starting point when deciding where to base a trip centred on the sea. Roses, Palamós and Platja d’Aro are also places to investigate for sailing and windsurfing; the exposed coast and variable winds make conditions an important part of that choice. On land, marked walking routes cross the Cap de Creus natural park and the coastal hills between Platja d’Aro and Palamós. Road cyclists can look towards the mountain roads in the northern part of the Costa Brava. Golf offers another way to spend time inland from the water, with courses around Pals, Platja d’Aro and Lloret de Mar.
