Tamarindo
Tamarindo pairs a surf beach with an estuary and mangroves. It is a useful Guanacaste base when you want coastal activity and a second, quieter landscape nearby.

Surf draws many visitors to Tamarindo Beach, but the estuary changes the character of the place. Look from the open Pacific shore toward the river mouth and mangrove vegetation to see two connected coastal habitats in one visit. That contrast is the reason to leave time for both settings.
What to look for
Surf on Tamarindo Beach
The estuary at the edge of the beach
Mangrove vegetation beside the tidal channel
Useful to know
Check water conditions before surfing or swimming near the river mouth.
Treat an estuary outing as a separate activity from beach time.
