Why go
Transport shapes how much of the island fits into a day. A stay centered on Willemstad has different needs from beach hopping toward Westpunt. Understanding the distinction between scheduled Konvoi buses, shared BUS vans and taxis helps you choose a workable connection instead of assuming every passenger van offers the same service.
The full story
Willemstad has two principal bus hubs, at Punda and Otrobanda. The larger Konvoi buses follow fixed routes, while smaller shared vans marked BUS use more flexible routes. A van's destination matters more than its resemblance to a taxi: check that it goes where you need before boarding. For the scheduled network, use the ABC operator's route information to connect your outward and return journeys. Taxis use TX plates and generally work with fares rather than meters. Asking the fare before departure is therefore part of arranging the ride. A rental car gives more freedom to combine dispersed beaches and attractions, especially away from Willemstad. Driving is on the right. Walking and cycling between distant stops become demanding in the daytime heat, so distance on the map should not be the only factor in choosing transport.
Useful to know
- For a Konvoi trip from Punda or Otrobanda, check the ABC timetable and return connection before leaving.
- Before boarding a BUS van, confirm your destination and where the driver will drop you.
- For a taxi from Willemstad to an outlying beach, agree the fare and arrange how you will return.
