Why go
Use the contrast to choose a base for your beach time. Seaquarium Beach puts bars and restaurants beside the sand near the capital. Porto Marie shifts the focus toward the bay and its underwater landscape, with a history of artificial reef work that adds context to a snorkeling visit.
The full story
Seaquarium Beach takes its name from the nearby Curaçao Sea Aquarium. Its developed setting, with places to eat and drink along the beach, makes it a different proposition from the western coves. Plan it as a beach stop near Willemstad, with the surrounding waterfront as part of the experience. Playa Porto Marie lies near Sint Willibrordus on Porto Marie Bay. Snorkeling and scuba diving are central to its identity. The bay also has a documented restoration history: in the early 2000s, a Reef Ball project installed artificial structures and transplanted coral following damage to the shallow reef. Project records describe community participation and monitoring of both artificial and natural reef areas. That history helps distinguish a restoration structure from a natural coral formation. It does not guarantee today's coral condition or wildlife sightings. With one near Willemstad and the other near Sint Willibrordus, they suit different outings; do not plan them as neighboring stretches of sand.
