Landhuis Zeelandia
This eighteenth-century country retreat reveals how wealthy Willemstad residents built for the island’s wind. Its cross-shaped pavilion makes an architectural stop east of the historic center.
Zeelandia was a retreat for townspeople rather than a working plantation house. The older cross-shaped pavilion and surrounding galleries show how orientation and airflow influenced its design. Look at the exterior and massing as an architectural observation, while confirming any arrangements before approaching beyond publicly accessible space or expecting an interior visit.
