From the Dallas World / Travel essentials
Driving to Dallas
Several interstate approaches converge on Dallas, including Interstate 45 from Houston and Interstate 20 from the east. The split between Interstate 35E and 35W matters when approaching from north or south.
A road trip into Dallas is easier to plan once the highway names are clear. Interstate 35E serves Dallas, while Interstate 35W serves Fort Worth between Denton and Hillsboro. U.S. Highway 75 is also called Central Expressway near Dallas, and Interstate 635 may appear as LBJ Freeway on signs and maps.
Useful to know
Choose Interstate 35E for Dallas rather than Interstate 35W through Fort Worth when coming from the north or south.
Allow flexible arrival time and check live traffic before entering the metro area.
Set your route to your Dallas neighborhood rather than to the city center if your stay is outside downtown.
