Fair Park
Fair Park is a sprawling historic complex southeast of downtown, best seen for its 1936 Texas Centennial architecture. The open grounds make a useful architectural walk even outside the State Fair.
Why go
The surviving exposition buildings and long esplanade show how Dallas presented Texas history and culture through Art Deco design. Look at the integrated sculpture and decorative details as well as the buildings' large forms; they make this more than a venue for events.
What to look for
The 1936 Art Deco exposition buildings
The long esplanade and its monumental setting
Art and ornament built into the architecture
Useful to know
Treat the grounds as an outdoor walk and allow for distance between buildings.
Check the Fair Park event calendar before going; major events can change access and ticketing.
