The Sixth Floor Museum at Dealey Plaza
This museum in the former Texas School Book Depository examines John F. Kennedy's life, assassination and legacy in the building at the center of the 1963 events.
Why go
The historic setting makes the exhibition more immediate than a general account of the presidency. Film, photographs, objects and interpretive displays connect the sixth floor to Dealey Plaza below, then follow the investigations and the longer national impact. Allow the museum itself to be the main stop rather than rushing through on a skyline walk.
What to look for
The permanent exhibition occupies the former depository's sixth floor.
Historic films, photographs and artifacts trace the assassination and its aftermath.
Dealey Plaza lies beside the building at Elm and Houston streets.
Useful to know
Check the museum's current timetable and ticket options before setting out.
Visit Dealey Plaza as a separate outdoor follow-up to the exhibition.
