Hammershus
Hammershus is a ruined medieval fortress above Bornholm’s rocky coast. The surviving walls and Baltic outlook make the approach from the visitor centre part of the experience.
Walk up from the visitor centre and pause at the outer walls before heading into the ruin. Its height explains the fortress position, while the remaining stonework gives a sense of the former stronghold. This is a visit for landscape and history together; allow for the exposed walk rather than treating it as a roadside viewpoint.
What to look for
Stone walls remain on the high coastal site.
The Baltic outlook explains the fortress position.
Useful to know
Allow time for the walk from the visitor centre to the ruins.
