Koldinghus

Koldinghus is a former royal castle where modern restoration sits visibly inside older ruined masonry. It is worth visiting to see how a damaged building was made usable again.

Koldinghus

Why go

Look for the junctions between surviving walls and newer inserted structures as you move through the castle. They reveal the building’s long life more clearly than a seamless reconstruction would. The historic rooms and modern work form one architectural experience, so leave time to notice the fabric as well as any exhibitions.

What to look for

  • Older masonry remains visible beside modern insertions.
  • The former royal castle shows several phases of use.

Useful to know

  • Pause at the restored sections to compare old and new materials.
