Kronborg

Kronborg is a fortress palace at Helsingør, facing the narrow Øresund. Visit for the meeting of Renaissance halls, coastal defences and the castle’s Hamlet connection.

Kronborg

Why go

Walk the bastions before entering so the castle’s strategic position makes sense. Inside, the halls change the story from military control of the strait to royal display. Hamlet gives the place a familiar name, but the maritime setting and fortifications are visible reasons to spend time here. Plan enough time to see both the exterior and interior.

What to look for

  • Bastions face the Øresund crossing.
  • Palace halls contrast with the fortress exterior.

Useful to know

  • Walk the defensive perimeter as well as the rooms.
