Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse
Rubjerg Knude Lighthouse stands amid shifting dunes above an eroding coast. Visit for the stark meeting of tower, sand and cliff rather than for a conventional lighthouse interior.
The surrounding dune is as important as the lighthouse: wind moves sand across the site and the cliff edge gives the structure its urgency. The tower was moved inland in 2019 as the shore changed, so older photographs show a different position. Treat this as an exposed coastal walk and judge conditions before setting out on the sand.
