Getting Oriented on Denver Streets
Denver has two street patterns that can make a map feel confusing: much of the city follows a cardinal grid, while LoDo and downtown angle toward the South Platte and Cherry Creek junction.
Knowing where the grid changes helps when walking between Union Station, central Denver and the Civic Center. Broadway and Colfax Avenue are useful reference streets. For a longer move, check current transit routes rather than assuming a historic line or shuttle still follows an old description.
Useful to know
Use Broadway and Colfax Avenue as orientation points before crossing between the regular grid and angled downtown streets.
Check a current transit map for any trip beyond the central walking area.
Along Cherry Creek or the South Platte, consider the off-street paths as a separate cycling or walking option.
