Colorado Railroad Museum
The Colorado Railroad Museum in Golden spreads historic trains across an outdoor railyard and depot. It is a worthwhile metro excursion for families and rail history.
Walk among locomotives, passenger cars and cabooses, then see restoration work at the roundhouse. The open-air scale gives this museum a different feel from Denver’s indoor collections. Train rides are separate and event dependent, so plan the core yard visit first and check ride dates if they matter.
What to look for
A 15-acre railyard holds locomotives and rolling stock.
The depot and roundhouse show rail history and restoration.
Useful to know
Dress for the outdoor railyard and visit the depot and roundhouse as well as the locomotives.
Treat any train ride as a separate event; check its date before building the visit around it.
