Historic Elitch Carousel House
This surviving carousel pavilion marks the original Elitch Gardens site in West Highland. It is a small historic stop beside the theatre, with no amusement rides operating here.
The pavilion helps make sense of an important change in Denver's entertainment landscape. Elitch Gardens began at 38th Avenue and Tennyson Street, then moved to the downtown park in the 1990s. Here, the former carousel shelter and nearby theatre are the visible remnants of that original place.
What to look for
The old carousel dome survives as a pavilion at the former gardens site.
Historic Elitch Theatre stands close to the pavilion.
The surrounding Highlands' Garden Village occupies the redeveloped park grounds.
Useful to know
See the pavilion and theatre together as a short West Highland history stop.
For operating rides, plan a separate visit to Elitch Gardens Theme & Water Park downtown.
