Sakura Square
A small downtown plaza at 19th and Larimer carries the story of Denver's Japanese American community. Its garden, sculptures and temple make a thoughtful short stop.
The courtyard honors people who shaped the community, including Ralph Carr, Minoru Yasui and Yoshitaka Tamai. Look at the portraits and garden before considering the neighboring Buddhist temple or shops. Each space has its own access, so the square works best as a flexible downtown stop.
What to look for
The Japanese garden in the courtyard
Sculptures honoring Japanese American community leaders
The Buddhist temple and Pacific Mercantile on the block
Useful to know
Treat the courtyard, temple and shops as separate visits with separate access.
Pair the square with a walk through nearby downtown streets.
