From the Dominican Republic World / Areas

Bahía de las Águilas

Bahía de las Águilas is a long, remote beach within Jaragua National Park. Its open coast is the draw, while reaching it takes deliberate planning from the Pedernales area.

Bahía de las Águilas

Why go

This protected stretch of the southwest coast has a very different setting from the developed beaches around Punta Cana. The beach runs for several kilometres beside the dry landscape of Jaragua. Its distance from major towns and the last approach from the Cabo Rojo area are part of the visit, so allow time for the journey as well as time by the water.

What to look for

  • A long beach meets Jaragua's dry coastal landscape.
  • The Cabo Rojo area marks the approach to this remote part of the park.

Useful to know

  • Arrange the final approach locally and confirm current park access before leaving Pedernales.
  • Set aside a substantial part of the day for travel rather than treating the beach as a quick stop.
