Parks and Open Spaces in Santo Domingo

Parque Colón and Parque Independencia make natural pauses while walking the Zona Colonial. For a longer break from streets and buildings, Mirador Sur lies in the southwest, while Mirador Norte is near Villa Mella. Mirador del Este, across the Ozama River, puts the Columbus Lighthouse in the same area. These are different outings, not stops on one compact park circuit.
What to look for
Parque Colón and Parque Independencia punctuate a walk through the Zona Colonial.
Mirador del Este sits east of the Ozama River near the Columbus Lighthouse.
Mirador Norte and Mirador Sur offer larger park settings on different sides of the city.
Useful to know
Use the colonial squares as short pauses between historic sights.
Give a larger park its own outing; the named parks are spread across Santo Domingo.
