Hoyo de Pelempito
Hoyo de Pelempito is a lookout over a deep depression in the Sierra de Bahoruco. The drive climbs from dry lowland vegetation toward cloud forest.
Why go
The change in landscape on the ascent is almost as striking as the viewpoint. The tourism authority describes a road rising through Aceitilla to an observatory above the geological basin, with short mountain paths nearby. This is a remote highland stop with a large-scale view, not a beachside detour from Barahona.
