Why go
Sea arrival is mainly relevant to cruise passengers or travellers with confirmed private vessel arrangements. Port Rashid provides the clear arrival anchor. Traditional dhow traffic remains part of the city’s Indian Ocean trading landscape, but it is not a dependable substitute for scheduled passenger transport.
The full story
Dubai developed as a Gulf trading port, and dhows moving across the Indian Ocean have long been part of the creek and port landscape. Connections with Iran and other shores of the region depended on individual vessel arrangements and are not a general visitor service. Modern cruise arrivals use Port Rashid, which gives sea travellers a defined terminal rather than an improvised dockside arrival. The contrast is useful on the ground: commercial dhows remain part of the waterfront scene, while cruise and private-vessel travel follow formal port procedures. Do not plan an over-water crossing from an old route listing alone. Confirm the port, visa requirements, check-in procedure and onward city transport directly with the cruise line, ferry operator or vessel operator.
