Crossing Dubai Creek by Boat

Abras link the Deira and Bur Dubai sides of Dubai Creek, providing a quick crossing between the old souks and historic waterfront districts.

Crossing Dubai Creek by Boat

Why go

An abra is the most direct way to cross the Creek when exploring Deira and Bur Dubai. It also makes the waterfront leg part of the visit, with views of commercial boats and the two historic banks. More elaborate boat trips serve a different, leisure-focused purpose.

The full story

The abra is a small ferry that connects the Deira and Bur Dubai sides of Dubai Creek. Its value is practical and visual at once: it shortens the crossing between the souk areas while placing the rider among the working waterfront and dhow traffic. Abra stations sit on both sides of the Creek, so the crossing combines naturally with the Gold Souk, Spice Souk, Al Shindagha or the historic lanes of Bur Dubai. Water buses and larger dhow-style cruises are separate choices, generally aimed at a longer ride or a more formal outing rather than a simple cross-river connection. Current routes, fare media and operating patterns should be checked with the RTA. For a Creek day, use the abra to connect two neighbourhoods rather than treating it as an isolated attraction.
