Why go
Driving suits trips that combine distant districts or leave Dubai for other emirates. In the dense parts of the city, it can add time rather than save it. Navigation needs current mapping because similar street names and changing road arrangements can complicate even short journeys.
The full story
Dubai’s roads connect a wide city, but driving is not automatically the fastest way to see it. Peak-hour congestion, scarce parking in some areas and different Arabic-to-English street spellings can make a destination harder to find. Major junction numbers can also be less intuitive than their sequence suggests. A hire car may be valuable for an excursion beyond the central corridor, but it adds parking, toll and driving responsibilities to a day that could otherwise use the Metro and taxis. If renting, confirm the licence and insurance requirements with the supplier and ask how road-toll charges are handled. Use an up-to-date navigation service, save destinations before departure, and avoid building a tight schedule around a cross-city drive at commuter times.
