Why go
A car gives flexibility beyond the central corridors, especially when combining Dubai with other parts of the UAE. It also brings practical constraints: international road access is tied to Oman crossings, and unfamiliar Arabic-to-English road spelling can make navigation harder than a route map suggests.
The full story
Dubai is linked by road to the other emirates and to Oman through the UAE’s wider border network. The Al Wajajah crossing provides road access from Oman, and other crossings serve the Al Ain–Al Buraimi area. For an Oman crossing, vehicle insurance valid in the UAE matters; requirements and fees can change, so check the relevant border authorities before travel. Once in Dubai, route names may appear with different English transliterations, and junction numbering is not always intuitive. Use a current navigation service and save the precise destination, not only a nearby landmark. Driving also competes with dense traffic and limited parking in some districts, so it is best suited to itineraries that extend beyond the Metro and taxi network.
