Why go
The useful starting point is the contrast between the Creek’s older souks and trading quarters and the newer coast to the west. Dubai’s ports, aviation links, finance and construction help explain its broad urban footprint, but the most legible visitor experiences remain district-based: Deira, Bur Dubai, Jumeirah and the waterfront each offer a different scale and character.
What to look for
- Dubai Creek is the historic inlet around which the older city developed.
- Deira lies east of the Creek, while much later development spreads west along the coast.
Useful to know
- Start with one side of the Creek before crossing to the other; it gives the city a clearer geographic frame.
- Treat central Dubai and the beach-and-marina districts as separate outings rather than one continuous walk.
