Getting around Dubrovnik
Dubrovnik’s compact, pedestrian Old Town is best explored on foot, though its side lanes can be steep. Local buses help bridge the distance from Gruž and other districts outside the walls.

Walking makes the most sense between Pile Gate, Stradun and the Old Harbour: you can follow the main street, then turn into narrower lanes as time and energy allow. If you are staying near Gruž or arriving at the main bus station, plan the bus leg to an Old Town entrance before starting your walk.
Useful to know
Use Stradun to orient yourself in the Old Town; allow extra time when a route turns into the steeper side lanes.
Check the current official city-bus timetable for a stop near your accommodation and the Old Town entrance you want.
At the main bus station near Gruž, confirm the departure stop and route before boarding.
