Why go
Walk the excavated streets to connect civic buildings, houses, theatre and the former harbor, then use Selçuk to understand the city’s older sanctuary and later Christian and Turkish phases. The distance between these areas matters: the Temple of Artemis and Basilica of St. John are separate from the main archaeological site.
What to look for
- Curetes Street links the upper civic quarter with the Library of Celsus.
- The Great Theatre faces the route once leading to Ephesus’s harbor.
- Selçuk holds the Temple of Artemis site and the Basilica of St. John.
Useful to know
- Allow substantial time for the sloping main ruins and their exposed stone streets.
- Treat Selçuk’s sacred sites as a separate cluster rather than an extension of the excavated street walk.
