Why go
Public transport is most useful when your accommodation, restaurant or next stop lies beyond the centre's short walking distances. The older guidance describes bus travel as a practical alternative to walking and also notes the tram network. It is a better fit for reaching a specific outer district than for moving between the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the Arno, which are close together.
Useful to know
- Check the current operator's route map and ticket rules before setting out; fares and sales points change.
- Keep a valid ticket ready before boarding rather than relying on an onboard purchase.
- Walk within the historic centre and use buses or trams for longer links beyond it.
