Walking in Florence
Walking is the simplest way to connect Florence's compact historic centre, where the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and the Arno lie close together.
Why go
Central Florence rewards walking because major landmarks appear in a continuous sequence of streets and squares. On foot, you can move from the cathedral complex to Piazza della Signoria and Ponte Vecchio while noticing façades, courtyards and smaller churches that disappear when travel is treated only as a transfer.
Useful to know
Walk the Duomo, Piazza della Signoria and Arno as one central circuit rather than planning separate transfers.
Allow extra time on stone streets and for crowded passages around major sights.
Use public transport or a taxi when your route extends well beyond the historic centre.
