Why go
This route works well for visitors who want a taste of two Alsatian towns in one day without rushing through several museums. Walk Strasbourg’s Grande Île from the cathedral area toward Petite France, then make for the station. A frequent direct train takes you to Colmar. There, keep the town walk distinct from the museum: pass through the old streets toward the covered market and Petite Venise before turning back to Unterlinden. The museum gives the day a substantial indoor finish, while the two walks show how each town relates to its waterways. Leave enough time for the walk between each station and its centre.
