Why go

This is a satisfying day for visitors who want two very different art collections without spending the entire day indoors. Give the Louvre a chosen wing or theme rather than trying to cover every gallery, then walk across the river to the Musée d’Orsay. Its former railway station makes a striking change of setting and period. Finish with a separate Paris walk along the Seine: use Pont Neuf, Square du Vert-Galant and the Île de la Cité as your anchors. That final outdoor stretch lets the paintings settle and gives the day a clear ending by the river.

    02

    Main stop · 90–135 min

    Musée d’Orsay

Musée d’Orsay places nineteenth-century art inside a former station on the Seine. Its compact focus complements a Louvre visit but still deserves its own time.

    03

    Main stop · 45–60 min

    Paris

Paris offers major museums and monuments across a large city. The Louvre, Eiffel Tower, Notre-Dame and Sacré-Cœur are very different visits, so a focused area or theme works best.
