Why go
Follow Grande Rue upward, then look back across the bay from the ramparts before reaching the abbey. The rock's steep arrangement shows how the monastery, defensive walls and village fitted together. Tides helped protect the site during medieval conflict; that relationship between water and fortification is still visible from the walls.
What to look for
- The steep Grande Rue beneath the abbey
- Wide tidal-bay views from the ramparts
- The abbey crowning the fortified rock
Useful to know
- Allow for a steep ascent through the village if the abbey is your goal.
- Check the abbey's visit arrangements separately from access to the village.
- Consult official tide guidance before any activity beyond the established visitor route.
