Why go
Keeping town distances separate from island distances makes San Cristóbal easier to plan. A waterfront walk does not prepare you for the journey toward Puerto Chino or the highlands. Arrange those outings as deliberate excursions, and check inter-island boats independently of your local travel plans.
The full story
Puerto Baquerizo Moreno is a walkable settlement, not a measure of how easily you can walk across San Cristóbal. The waterfront and town streets form one scale of outing; El Progreso, El Junco, La Galapaguera and Puerto Chino lie beyond it. Discuss the destinations and return arrangements when organizing road transport, rather than treating the journey as an ordinary ride within town. San Cristóbal also has air access and a boat connection with Puerto Ayora on Santa Cruz. Confirm the current operating service, meeting point and timetable directly before building a connection around either. Sea crossings can be rough, so a transfer day needs different expectations from a walk along the Malecón. For a taxi excursion, agree the route and confirm the fare before setting out, especially when adding inland stops.
Useful to know
- Arrange a return journey when visiting inland San Cristóbal sites.
- Confirm boat departure details before linking San Cristóbal with a Santa Cruz stay.
