Why go
Volvo’s former museum brought together early cars, commercial vehicles and engines to explain the company’s broad industrial heritage. That history now belongs to a closed waterfront museum at Arendal. World of Volvo, near Liseberg, is a distinct attraction; the former museum location should not be used to find it.
The full story
The Volvo Museum opened in Arendal in 1995. Its chronological displays traced the company’s development from the early ÖV 4 car through later cars, lorries and buses. Boat and aircraft engines broadened that account beyond passenger vehicles, showing how several kinds of engineering belonged to the Volvo story. The collection also included the shared desk associated with the company’s pioneers, Gabrielsson and Larson, bringing the early business into a more personal scale. The museum’s former position on Hisingen, by the water at Arendal, belonged to its particular history. It is no longer an operating visitor attraction. Some collection material is now shown at World of Volvo, which opened near Liseberg in 2024. That is a separate place with its own identity and location; the old museum’s address and waterfront setting should not be used to find it.
