Granada’s setting and seasons
Granada lies in a basin beside the Sierra Nevada foothills. Hot summers, cool winters and a marked day-to-night change make the season and time of day matter on exposed hill walks.
The mountain setting is more than a backdrop. It helps explain Granada’s temperature swings and the contrast between open viewpoints, steep neighborhood streets and lower central routes. Summer is typically hot and dry; winter can bring frost. Plan exposed walks with the conditions in mind and keep indoor visits available when weather changes.
Useful to know
In hot weather, leave exposed hill walks for a cooler part of the day.
In winter, expect colder conditions on outdoor routes and check the forecast before a long walk.
