Why go
Andrews Bald offers a grassy high-country opening after a 3.6-mile round trip on Forney Ridge Trail. The change from forest to open ground is the main reward, with mountain views when clouds lift. Its name recalls cattle herder Andrew Thompson, who brought livestock here in the nineteenth century. Allow for cooler, windier weather than at the park entrances.
