Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse
Visit a nineteenth-century log schoolhouse above Metcalf Bottoms. The building also served as a church, and a small cemetery adds context to the former community.
Why go
Little Greenbrier Schoolhouse served both education and worship for a mountain community. Its log construction and nearby cemetery make the site a compact place to consider lives beyond the park’s scenic overlooks. The access road has a published season; a trail approach from Metcalf Bottoms may be possible when road conditions permit.
What to look for
A historic one-room schoolhouse built in 1881 for the Little Greenbrier community.
Useful to know
Check Little Greenbrier Road conditions before driving to the schoolhouse.
If the road is closed, a trail approach from Metcalf Bottoms may still be possible if conditions allow.
