From the Great Smoky Mountains World / Places
Tipton Place
Stop at Tipton Place for a cabin, outbuildings and a distinctive cantilever barn. It is one of several varied farmsteads along Cades Cove Loop Road.
Why go
Tipton Place gives a more varied look at Cades Cove farm life than a single cabin stop. The house, outbuildings and cantilever barn invite visitors to compare how work was organized across the property. William Tipton’s early land grant explains the name, but the preserved structures are what make the exit-side stop worth exploring.
What to look for
Tipton Place is located on the exit side of the loop between Dan Lawson Place and Carter Shields Cabin.
Useful to know
Look for the cantilever barn and blacksmith shop on the exit half of Cades Cove Loop Road.
