Getting to Greece

Plan your arrival around your first destination. Athens is the main air gateway, but a direct flight to a regional or island airport may save a return journey.

Getting to Greece

Why go

Greece has mainland and island arrival points, so the nearest useful airport depends on where your trip begins. Athens works well for an Athens start or an onward connection; Thessaloniki serves northern Greece, while Heraklion, Rhodes and Corfu are examples of island airports worth checking before you settle on a route.

Useful to know

  • Check current passport and visa rules for your nationality with the Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs before booking.
  • If you connect through another Schengen country, check where passport control takes place and allow time for that transfer.
  • Compare flights into Athens or Thessaloniki with arrivals closer to your first island or mainland stop.
